Your request to opt out will be processed promptly, and will take effect no more than 30 days from the date of your request
  14. I keep getting solicited by all sorts of companies. Is there a method that I can stop all marketing solicitations from all these companies?
No, but there are ways you can try to limit the number of solicitations you receive from companies with whom you do not have an existing customer relationship. To reduce the number of mailings you receive, visit www.DMAChoice.org. To limit the number of phone calls you receive, visit www.donotcall.gov. You may also contact specific companies directly and ask that they do not contact you either through direct mail, email, or telephone solicitations.

The Federal Trade Commission maintains the website http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0262-stopping-unsolicited-mail-phone-calls-and-email. This site provides information and contacts for opting out of general marketing mail and telephone calls.
  15. You’re contacting me at an email address that I didn’t provide. How did you get this email address?
The email address that we have for you may have come from a previous communication or transaction that we have completed with you. Or we may have gathered this information from another source such as data agencies or consumer reporting agencies and others.
  16. Can you tell me why you would need to share my personal information with regulatory authorities or law enforcement?
The financial services industry is heavily regulated and insurance companies, like John Hancock, are routinely examined by state insurance departments and similar regulatory agencies. During these examinations, a number of underwriting, claims and other records are reviewed to ensure consumers are treated fairly. Although rare, law enforcement may make a request for certain information to assist in their investigations. Upon receipt of a subpoena or court order, John Hancock will provide the information required.
  17. If I opt out, will I continue to receive a Privacy Notice each year, and will I have to opt out each time?
You will continue to receive a Privacy Notice each year if you are an active customer. John Hancock is required to send you this Notice describing our privacy policy annually even if our policy does not change. However, an opt-out remains in effect until you ask us to change it. You will not have to opt-out each year.
  18. If I am a joint owner of an account with another person, do both of us have to agree to limit the sharing of information?
No, either one is able to limit the sharing. If two or more customers jointly have a product or service from us, they may elect on behalf of other joint owners not to share information within the John Hancock family of companies.
